European wind industry warns it faces headwinds over next five years

The European wind energy industry is in limbo as it waits for a new wave of National Energy & Climate Plans from governments, which it expects to largely define its growth prospects for the next five years.

That is the conclusion of the new Wind Energy Outlook to 2023 from industry body WindEurope. The analysis points to a high degree of uncertainty for wind farm developers in Europe, which are dependent both on government decarbonisation targets and improvements to permitting arrangements and investment in new grid capacity to continue their recent growth surge.
